“Hard work” is the will to make things happen, and “passion” is spirit or love for doing things. Successful people are generally regarded as people who are born with natural abilities or talents, whereas a person’s success lies in his desire to succeed. It’s not only the “talent” but also the strong will that makes a successful person.
Success can be achieved by those who want to work hard and have a sincere passion for doing something. Hard work and passion will defeat pure talent anytime. Special talent will be useless if someone does not want to include work hard and desire to improve or develop their talent” (Inspira, 2019). Therefore, if talent and hard work go hand in hand, it will give better results.
Hard work is one of the keys to success. According to Yaumi (2016), author of the book entitled Pendidikan Karakter Landasan, Pilar dan Implementasi, hard work is an attitude and behavior that shows sincerity in overcoming various obstacles to complete a task or job as well as possible. Anyone can have an idea, vision, or dream, but it takes 99% of the hard work to bring it closer to reality (Inspiria, 2019).
People who work hard will not easily give up when they face obstacles in their efforts to achieve success. It’s not “talent” that makes ballerina successful. Perfect ballet performances, all elegance, and every movement are the result of hard work that is continuously done every day for years. Also, successful athletes, for example, are not suddenly born as champions. They are made through hard work, determination, and consistent confidence.
Aside from hard work, passion is another key to success. A sincere passion for doing a job will make everything feels not hard. Love of a thing will make the person comfortable and motivated to be able to give the best. According to the Academy of York (2019), passion is the fire that lights people up with confidence. It generates enthusiasm to overcome the most intractable challenges and drives progress on specific goals, no matter how difficult it is.
The synergy of courage, excitement, and endurance creates success. Passionate people are confident about what they want to achieve. They have clarity about the goals that they are pursuing and why they are doing. Passion is what generates the desire to learn, try again, and do better next time.
There have been success stories about hard work and passion that make people achieve success. One of them is Jack Ma. He achieves success with hard work and sincere passion. Jack Ma is a businessman from China. Before becoming a businessman and being the richest man in China, Jack Ma had experienced some rejections to get access to education and employment. He had been rejected by Harvard University 10 times, and even a company like KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) had rejected him. However, Jack Ma did not give up. He got a business idea in the internet field. He began to realize his idea.
Hard work and passion made him survive in the struggle, even though, at that time, the idea did not make any money for three years. It was even laughed at by his friends. However, because of the hard work and sincere enthusiasm that Jack Ma has, ten years later, his idea was successful, and people gave respect to Jack Ma. The idea is Alibaba, which is now one of the largest e-commerce companies in the world.
In brief, success cannot be instant. People should have to work hard to support the talent or potential that exists in themselves and their environment. Also, people need a sincere spirit to make their struggles feel comfortable and do not become a burden. With that, success will be possible.
